Easton cook Eleanora Scarpetta, left, joins NBC's Al Roker at a restaurant in "little Italy," N.Y. Scarpetta recently gave Roker a tour of her old neighborhood in the Bronx where she grew up and where she was taught to cook by her mother. The special will air onJune 16 on the Food Network.

Easton resident and cook Eleanora Scarpetta took a special acquaintance on a recent tour of her childhood neighborhood in the Bronx - NBC's Al Roker.

Scarpetta showed Roker the place where she lived for 18 years, her local church and all her favorite stores and vendors on Arthur Avenue in "Little Italy."

After the tour, Scarpetta had only nice things to say about Roker. She described him as friendly, funny and personable.

"Walking with him was so exciting!" Scarpetta said. "I thought he was wonderful, very down to earth. People stopped him on the street, and he talked to everybne. He didn't turn anyone away."

Roker's producers con tacted Scarpetta at the beginning of February. She subsequently had lunch with him at La Fresco Restaurant in New York City to discuss plans for a cooking show on the topic of World Wide Markets.

Scarpetta and Roker met again on Feb. 20 in the Bronx for the taping of the special, which will air on the Food Network June 16.

"Al told me he heard I was an excellent cook," she said. "I'd like to invite him to my home anytime for an Italian home-cooked meal."

On Valentine's Day, Scarpetta demonstrated Penne a la Vodka on "Martha Stewart Living." Her next segment will be making Steak Pizziaola (air date pending).

In addition, Scarpetta is promoting a special seven- night cruise to Europe entitled "The Costa Victoria Cruise the Mediterranean with Eleanora," beginning Sept. 16.

The itinerary includes:
Genoa and Naples, Italy; Palermo, Sicily; Tunis, Tunisia; Palma De Mallorca and Barcelona, Spain; and Marseilles, France.

"This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet all my dedicated fans and viewers aboard the luxury liner Costa Cruise Lines" Scarpetta said.

"I will be giving a cooking class on board, a private cock tail party and getting a little physical with my group, building up an appetite for that marvelous Italian food on board," she said.
